I recently asked on social media what everyones top products were when having a newborn and it was amazing to see how many had the same answers! And most of them were in my top 5 as well! So hopefully this will be a helpful guide to expecting parents!
1. Ewan The Dream Sheep
Ewan The Dream Sheep was mentioned the most on my stories and was a product we actually had for Oscar, which we were lucky to have been gifted by a friend! After trying a few other white noise soothers, this worked the best for us personally so I'd definitely recommend it for a newborn. It features a selection of white noises, including a heart beat sound which is meant to remind babies of the womb. Something I use a lot in my newborn sessions as it helps settle them! It's also soft and cuddly with a soothing light too so has a bit of everything really! They retail from £29.99 and can be found on the Sweet Dreamers website!
2. Angelcare Baby Bath Support
This came in close second with my followers but it was personally my best purchase overall and I would 100% recommend this to all new parents! We started off with a bath foam sponge support which you place in the bath and then you lay your baby down in it but Oscar absolutely hated it. We tried it twice and he just screamed the whole time so we decided to find something else and we then found this! We read many reviews and it just sounded perfect! And it was! I don't know what we would have done with out it! Oscar loved bath time since this and it was great as because they're propped up, they can see you the whole time, putting them at ease. The material also helps keep baby secure and warm and there is also a mark to tell you how far to fill your bath up to. This lasts right up until they're 6 months too so for the retail price of £27.99, I think it's definitely worth it. They an be found here.
3. Bath Thermometer
The 3rd top product was a bath thermometer and a few brands were mentioned but there wasn't a firm favourite so thought I'd share with you the ones we purchased. When Oscar was a newborn, we purchased the Tommee Tippee Bath and Room Thermometer. It was easy to use and flashed red if the bath was too hot! We only ever used it for the bath and it always seemed accurate! It also lasted for quite a while too which was a bonus! As Oscar got older, we went for a more fun design which is the Nuby Turtle Bath Thermometer. As well as flashing red if the temperature is too hot, it also beeps which I think is great! It also has a timer which I don't really use as Oscar would spend forever in the bath now that he's older haha! Both have LED screens which show the temperature but out of the two, I probably would steer more towards the Turtle from Nuby, just because of the beep function it has!
4. Chicco Next2me Crib
Another popular product mentioned was the Chicco Next2me crib. We had also purchased one of these, along with a moses basket and cot but none of these worked for us, only because Oscar was very clingy! He didn't ever want to be put down but they grow up so fast so we just enjoyed all the cuddles. We ended up co-sleeping instead which was personally the best decision for us, especially because I was breast-feeding too. Saying all this, I have heard so many good things about the crib, which is why we purchased it in the first place and I would definitely say give it a go if you're on the fence about it. They can be purchased from many online shops including Amazon.
5. Cuddledry 'Handsfree' Baby Towel
Finally is the handsfree baby towel from Cuddledry! I hadn't heard of Cuddledry towels until Oscar was almost 2 so by then it was too late to purchase the handsfree towel but I have heard so many good things about it and it was very popular in the responses I received. As well as being recommended by celebrities, midwives and maternity nurses, it is also multi-award winning! So the parent wears it like an apron allowing you to get baby out of the bath, wrap them up and keep them all snuggly and warm, avoiding the multi tasking of holding a towel and a slippery baby! They are super soft as well which I know myself from purchasing a 'Cuddlemonkey bamboo soft hooded towel.' (As seen in the photos of Oscar at the top of this blog) We've had it for over 2 years now and it still feels the same as when we first purchased it, even after all the many many washes it's had! Starting from £34.99, they do seem quite expensive for a towel but I'd say there definitely worth investing in! I'll definitely be purchasing another when Oscar grows out the one he has. They can be found here.
So there we go! The top 5 products for newborns as recommended by my followers and myself. Another product that just missed the top 5 which I think should be mentioned is muslins! Muslins are a defo must have! These can picked up from anywhere including supermarkets, departments stores, online etc. You can never have too many either as they come in handy for everything and can be washed over and over again! I kept them everywhere too - in the car, in the changing bag, every room in the house haha!
I hope this has helped but remember though, these are just personal opinions so please keep doing whatever works for you :) Check out my Instagram stories for all the latest news, photoshoots and polls! Thank you for reading!
