Hi guys, I hope everyone is doing ok and staying safe! We're doing as well as we can be but just miss our family and friends so much. With this time, I thought it would be the perfect time to start a blog to share my everyday life with you as well as the business side of things. I do have some experience of blogging as I opened a separate instagram account in October 2018 especially for blogging and recording the life of 'My Roo and Me' and that has been amazing but since I've started up my photography, it has sort of taken a back seat! So I thought this is the perfect opportunity to try and combine everything together into one place! I hope you enjoy reading!
Anyway, let's get started! For my first blog post, I thought I'd write about how my studio happened! As you've probably read on my website, I used to work from my dining room. I loved the space but it meant everything was crammed into our living room every time I had a photoshoot and it also meant my husband and little boy had to leave the house each time as well! It wasn't convenient but it meant I could try and get my business going and keep capturing the special moments for my clients which was important to me.
At the end of September, I was made redundant from my part time job as a seamstress. It wasn't ideal but it meant I could put everything I had into making my business work and doing what I love at the same time. But because I was getting more work, it was getting harder to work in the space I had.
My husband then suggested about converting the garage into a studio for me! Obviously I was ecstatic but I also felt bad as he has always dreamt of having a garage that was attached to the house to use as his workshop. We came to the arrangement that I could have the garage if he could have a workshop built in the garden! I was so happy! And so the work began!
The first task was to clear the garage and as you can probably see from the photos above, it wasn't the smallest or quickest of tasks! But my husband stuck at it and used any free time he had between working, socialising and sleeping to get the whole thing done! I remember helping him hold up some plaster board on the ceiling at one end so he could fix it on and it was so so heavy. It wasn't even for very long but it felt like the longest time in the world! Luckily his friend came to the rescue though and helped us out!
Whilst my husband was doing all of this, I was planning on how I wanted everything to look, what furniture and storage I needed and where all of it was going to go. And I love this kind of thing! Even choosing the flooring was quite exciting as well! I looked on various websites but I wanted to actually see examples for myself instead of just ordering it online. So off we went to B&Q, and it was hard trying to keep Oscar entertained whilst picking out the perfect laminate but we did it. And I love it.
After all the work had been done, it was now time to go to one of my all time favourite places. IKEA. I had already chosen what I needed but we still did the whole walk around because you just have to, don't you?! And don't worry, I didn't forget to buy my cinnamon buns at the end!
A couple of days building the furniture and putting bits on the walls as well as a custom built shelving unit (again made by my husband) the room was finished! All of this hard work was worth it in the end. In just over 3 months, my dream had come true. I now have my very own studio and what an amazing job by my talented husband! I'm so excited to share my happy place with everyone and I hope you all love it as much as I do.
Daisy x
